Spring: waking the pool up

Time to move from winter mode to swimming mode without surprises. What happens now decides how the whole summer goes.

  • Remove and clean the winter cover before the water warms up.
  • Check the pump, filter and multiport valve, and set filtration to the season pace.
  • Adjust the pH first, then a shock treatment to start with clean water.
  • Start the salt chlorinator (if you have one) and check the cell.

Summer: high season

More heat, more swimmers and more chlorine used up. Consistency is what keeps the water clear.

  • Weekly visits to test and adjust chlorine and pH.
  • Cleaning the floor, walls, waterline and baskets.
  • Watching filter pressure and backwashing when it is due.
  • For residential communities, lifeguard cover during the swimming season.

Autumn: slowing down without neglecting it

The pool gets less use, but leaves and the first rains bring work. The best moment to check the equipment.

  • Removing leaves often so they do not rot on the floor.
  • Reducing filtration hours as the temperature drops.
  • Checking the equipment calmly, now that there is no rush.
  • Considering a thermal cover to extend the season or protect the water.

Winter: winterising and keeping watch

The pool rests, but it is not abandoned. Good winterising saves a lot of money in spring.

  • Winterising treatment so the water holds until spring.
  • Fitting the winter cover and checking it after rain or wind.
  • Minimal filtration and precautions on frosty nights.
  • Periodic checks to make sure everything is still in order.
